Membrane-based technology is becoming more and more popular for treating textile wastewaters because of its high membrane rejection and low development of secondary pollutants. For this project, the use of a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with forward osmosis (FO) membrane for dye removal was highlighted. PVDF has interesting properties like strong mechanical stability, high thermal stability, and chemical resistance to bases, acids. The purpose of this work is to examine how the methylene blue dye solution is affected by varying concentrations and membrane thicknesses of FO membrane besides to observe other parameters to obtain the good membrane for the membrane separation with methylene blue. This study also involves producing FO membrane using interfacial polymerization of production polyamide on PVDF support. Besides, the parameter that need to be investigate are polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and the thickness of the membrane. Membrane characterization using Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and FTIR Spectrometer is also being study. Lastly the removal of methylene blue dye with concentration of 20 mg/L. The experiment begins with the fabrication of the membrane support and moves on to the preparation of the thin-film composite membrane. Following the membrane's characterization, the FO process experiment is set up to assess the thin film composite (TFC) membranes' FO performance. As the results, membranes were subjected to the removal of methylene blue dye to gain a deeper comprehension of the characteristics and performances of the membrane. In this study all membranes exhibited higher than average of 95% of dye rejection. For FESEM analysis all samples for unmodified substrate exhibit the same functional group through the presence of a chain of several bonds which lead to PVDF. The scans of the membrane substrate that had not been modified clearly displayed the dark spot which indicated the pores on the membrane substrate. The modified TFC membrane's rougher, formed a link-spiral that indicated the polyamide layer on the membrane. FTIR analysis can be seen with the appearance of the new peak on the membrane after IP process which can be describe as a polyamide group that form on the membrane. For this project, the optimal membrane is with 16 wt% of PVDF, 5 wt% of PVP and the thickness 200um.20aFaculty of Chemical and Process Engineering TechnologyxDissertations 0aUniversities and collegesxDissertations 0aThesesxDissertations uhttps://umpir.ump.edu.my/id/eprint/47347
