This study is to investigate the effect of La as a dopant to ZnO nanoparticles (ZnONPs) that was synthesised via green method using pineapple waste as a sustainable precursor. It aims to explore the impact of La concentration as dopant on the photocatalytic activity of ZnONPs. The pineapple waste extract is used as a reducing and capping agent in the green synthesis of ZnONPs. The synthesised powder (i.e. ZnONPs and also La-doped ZnONPs) were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) analyses. The elevation of La concentration from 1wt% to 3wt% in ZnO results in an augmentation of crystallite size (from 38 to 42 nm), accompanied by a corresponding shift in band gap values (2.7 to 2.8 eV), and induces a morphological transformation from hexagonal to another shape after treatment (M.Karthikeyan et al., 2018). The research aims to offer valuable insights into the potential application of these nanoparticles for environmentally friendly and efficient industrial wastewater treatment.
