Nickel is commonly used in BRM, but it have high carbon precipitation rate can lead to deactivation. The improvement of catalytic activity and resistance to carbon formation can be achieved by exploring the novels catalysts incorporating noble metals such Ruthenium, Rhodium and Palladium. This study is to synthesize, characterize, and evaluate the performance of a Ru-Ni/CeO₂ catalyst in producing the syngas. The method used was ultrasonic-assisted impregnation to synthesis the promoted catalyst, 3% Ru in 15% Ni/CeO₂. XRD, BET, and SEM analyses were used for the catalyst characterization. Performance studies of the catalyst were conducted under temperature variations from 600°C to 900°C and (CO₂+H₂O)/ CH₄ ratio from 0.9 to 1.3. The BET analysis demonstrate that the promoted catalyst have higher surface area than unpromoted catalysts. According to the analysis using SEM-EDX with XRD, the promoted catalyst displayed a more polished morphology and a more consistent dispersion of Nickel compared with the unpromoted catalyst. This reaction study indicated that the catalyst of 3%Ru-15% Ni/CeO₂ can achieved superior methane conversion (75%), hydrogen yield (72%), and carbon monoxide yield (48%) under a reaction temperature at 900°C and the H₂/CO ratio is 1. The study on the (CO₂ + H₂O)/CH₄ ratio showed that the lowest ratios with high methane content in the feed did not lead to an increased production of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Post-reaction XRD analysis of the spent catalyst shows the presence of carbon, indicate carbon deposition happen during reforming.TPO further quantified the carbon weight loss, with a ratio of 0.9 corresponding to a 14.40% weight loss, while a ratio of 1.3 resulted in a higher weight loss of 31.90%. In conclusion, exploring new promoters can help make better and longer-lasting catalysts for turning methane into useful gases. This can make the whole process work much better UR - https://umpir.ump.edu.my/id/eprint/47101 ER -
