Empty fruit bunches (EFBs), a byproduct of the palm oil industry, are accessible and rich in lignocellulosic content, making them an ideal feedstock for producing bio-based products. However, EFBs are complex mixtures containing sugars, organic acids, and other chemicals that require separation for specific applications. The purpose of this research is to study the adsorption of EFB hydrolysate model solution using Amberlite XAD-16 resin to separate the chemicals from the EFB hydrolysate. An EFB hydrolysate model solution was prepared based on the composition of glucose, xylose, arabinose, furfural and acetic acid to mimic the composition in the EFB hydrolysate. Batch adsorption was performed at different pH from 3 to 11. pH 5 was selected as the best pH with the binding capacity of glucose, xylose, furfural and acet6tic acid. In addition, the performance of adsorption efficiency for fixed bed column system is better compared to the packed column system. This study highlights how Amberlite XAD-16 resin may improve the efficiency of was capable to process EFB biomass hydrolysate, which is essential for promoting the synthesis of biochemicals and sustainable biofuel. This study assists in the creation of economically and ecologically sustainable technology by maximizing the use of renewable biomass.
