Syngas, a combination of hydrogen (H2) and carbon monoxide (CO), is produced by the thermochemical process of ethanol dry reforming, which takes ethanol (C2H5OH) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The physicochemical characteristics of the catalyst at different Cobalt (Co) loadings supported by palm oil fuel ash (POFA) and the effectiveness of the Co/POFA catalysts for ethanol dry reforming to produce syngas were the primary objectives of this study. The mass change in Thermal-Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) will be used to characterize the synthesized catalyst, and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) will be used to determines the chemical bonds that exist within the catalyst. Brunaeur-Emmett-Teller (BET) will be used to determine the catalyst's surface area. In a fixed-bed reactor with regulated temperature and pressure, the prepared catalysts' dry reforming performance is assessed. Systematically, the impact of the cobalt precursor on the catalyst's resistance to deactivation, selectivity towards desired products (H2 and CO), and activity for producing hydrogen is examined. As the weight percentage of cobalt in POFA increases, the conversion and yield of syngas produced also increase. This happens as a result of the carbon attaching to the catalyst surface and creating syngas. The fixed-bed reactor containing the cobalt with the weight percentages (5wt%, 10wt%, 15wt%, and 20wt%), supported by POFA, will be used, and the temperature at which the ethanol dry reforming reaction occurs will be fixed (750oC). For this study, the ultrasonic method will be utilized to produce the Co/POFA catalyst.
