The use of thermoplastic polymers is common in industry, especially for the oil gas business. With the enhancement of new technology, thermoplastic polymer such polypropylene is utilized as a composite material in order to produce a superhydrophobic surface for oil and gas pipeline coating. The introduction of novel polypropylene superhydrophobic coating, which can be referred to as a water-repellant surface of a steel pipeline coating. In the present research, the superhydrophobic coating is utilized by the combination of polypropylene, chemical polymer such PP-g-MAH, and nanosilica. Solvent casting method is used to apply the fabricated polypropylene superhydrophobic or nanosilica nanocomposite coating. The film coating later will be tested with machines to identify the properties of the coating films. The determination of the coating properties are based on water contact angle (WCA), fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetric (DSC), and ther mogravimetric analysis (TGA). From the result, a specific identification of film’s wettability in which the water contact angle less than 150 and have a good toughness. As for the durability of the film, it is tested with abrasion test, the film shows a clean surface condition means the film is durable. The introduction and the expanding use of polypropylene as a composite material is the proof of a promising potential for polymer industry to promote low costing material with strong characterization in various fields. Also maintaining sustainable and environmentally friendly material for industry.
