The rising environmental concerns have created interest in finding different ways to produce the chemical. The research investigates the potential to manufacture acetic acid through bio-methanol which derives from biomass. Biomass gasification leads to the production of bio-methanol which undergoes a series of actions including syngas conditioning and Cativa™ process carbonylation and methanol synthesis. Aspen Plus V14 software enabled the development of a simulation model to convert bio-methanol into acetic acid along with optimization solutions to improve operational efficiency and economic performance. A techno-economic analysis (TEA) investigated system costs together with yield output and environmental effects of the manufacturing process. Under the optimized conditions which combined methanol with carbon monoxide at 2:5:1 molar ratio and hydrogen the system exceeded 95% methanol conversion while yielding high amounts of acetic acid. Process integration with recycle streams allowed to develop a new cost model that decreased OPEX to $16.9 million yearly and lowered CAPEX to $2.79 million which together yielded a 14.5% decrease in total costs. The optimized production cost analysis showed that acetic acid operation could become profitable within three years. The bio-methanol route effectively reduced carbon emissions through its operation which supports global sustainability initiatives. The research findings show that bio-methanol-based acetic acid production presents promising economic along with environmental benefits. It is recommended to improve catalyst efficiency along with reactor design and process scalability to enhance industrial usage. Implementing renewable energy sources alongside advanced process controls will boost the financial competitiveness of this environmentally friendly manufacturing method UR - https://umpir.ump.edu.my/id/eprint/47866 ER -
