Corrosion in industrial applications, particularly with mild steel in acidic environments, offers considerable issues in terms of safety, maintenance costs, and environmental impact. Traditional corrosion inhibitors may use hazardous substances that raise questions about sustainability. The application of ground coffee waste (GCW) as an environmentally acceptable, sustainable, and reasonably priced green corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 0.5 M HCl solution is investigated in this work. Rich in bioactive substances like polyphenols, tannins, and caffeine, GCW was used to create protective films on the metal surface, which slowed the rate of corrosion. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and weight loss measurements were used to assess GCW's efficacy as a corrosion inhibitor. Results demonstrated that GCW solutions at concentrations of 3000, 6000, and 9000 ppm considerably decreased corrosion rates, with the maximum inhibitor efficiency of 92% recorded at 9000 ppm. The findings imply that GCW, a sustainable consequence of coffee consumption, has tremendous potential as a green corrosion inhibitor, harmonizing with environmental and economic sustainability goals.
