This project focuses on developing a novel superhydrophobic coating for oil and gas pipelines to address critical issues like corrosion, biofouling, and paraffin deposition. The coating utilizes a combination of polypropylene (PP), a robust and chemically resistant polymer, and nano silica to create a surface that mimics the lotus leaf effect. By incorporating nano silica, aim to introduce the necessary roughness to repel water effectively, minimizing corrosion and improving flow efficiency. The coating will be tested by a few machines to determine the thermal characterization of the film, which consists of a Differential Scanning Calorimetric (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). The water contact angle remained below 150°, preventing the study from achieving a superhydrophobic coating with PP, PP-g-MAH, and nano-silica. Thermal studies, however, revealed increased stability. According to TGA, PP-g- MAH improved bonding, and nano-silica slowed degradation by acting as a heat barrier. The three-component system degraded the slowest and retained weight the best. DSC showed a steady melting temperature and enhanced crystallinity. By decreasing paraffin accumulation, corrosion, and biofouling and increasing durability and efficiency, this improved nanocomposite coating may help oil and gas pipelines. The following suggestions are made for future research to improve and broaden the study of superhydrophobic polypropylene composites in light of the study's findings and results. Which is optimization of nano-Silica content, exploration of alternative additives and explore variety of formulation.
