This study explores the solutions of MB with the application of fibrous nano-silica (KCC-1) sourced from environmentally friendly and reusable palm oil fuel ash (POFA). Copper (Cu) doped with the synthesised KCC-1, resulting in the Cu/KCC-1 photocatalyst. Nearly 10,000 types of synthetic dyes with a worldwide production of 7 × 105 tons per year. Methylene blue (MB) is a common dye found in wastewater from textile industries. This dye poses a problem because it's toxic and persistent in the environment. In Malaysia, over 1,000 tons of POFA are disposed of in lagoons and landfills without utilization. Utilize POFA, a solid waste as a silica source is essential for catalyst development. The preparation of Cu/FNS derived from palm oil fuel ash (POFA) was done through microemulsion technique and wet impregnation method. Comprehensive characterization techniques validated the catalyst's characteristic, including SEM-EDX, XRD, FTIR, and UV–Vis DRS. The photocatalytic degradation of MB via One-factor-at-time (OFAT) has been conducted to identify the independent variables and range. The OFAT approach examines how model outputs change in response to variations in model input. The study focused on the photocatalytic degradation of MB, resulting in an 85.71% degradation rate under optimal conditions: a catalyst dosage of 5 g/L, a pH of 8, and an initial MB concentration of 10 mg/L. This study successfully synthesizes and characterizes both KCC-1 and Cu/KCC-1. The characteristics identified, including a strong Si-O-Si interaction, a lowered band gap energy, and distribution of Cu, emphasize the distinctive features of dendritic fibrous structures and the improved attributes brought about by the Cu content. The distinctive dendritic fibrous structure and the successful incorporation of Cu, rendering it a promising candidate for diverse catalytic application for photocatalytic degradation UR - https://umpir.ump.edu.my/id/eprint/47747 ER -
