However, the large amount of pineapple plantation waste generated annually creates environmental challenges and requires sustainable utilization strategies. At the same time, studies investigating the relationship between chlorophyll concentration and the electrical performance of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) remain limited. Therefore, this study focuses on the extraction of chlorophyll from pineapple leaves and the investigation of its effects on DSSC electrical performance under different extraction conditions. Besides, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of four key factors, namely waste type, extraction time, storage time and heat pre-treatment on chlorophyll concentration and DSSC performance. A total of 16 experimental runs were conducted to examine the influence of chlorophyll-a (chl a) and chlorophyll-b (chl b) contents in 16 different chlorophyll dye samples (S1 to S16) prepared under various extraction conditions. The total chlorophyll content ranged from 3.83 mg/L in sample S16 to 32.26 mg/L in sample S1 resulting in noticeable variations in the electrical characteristics of the DSSCs. The results showed that sample S1 which showed the highest chlorophyll concentration, produced superior DSSC performance with higher open-circuit voltage (Voc), short-circuit current density (Jsc), maximum power point (Pmp), fill factor (FF) and overall efficiency (η) compared to the other samples. A comparison between samples S1 and S16 revealed that an approximately three-times higher total chlorophyll concentration resulted in an approximately tenfold increase in Jsc. In conclusion, the findings confirm that chlorophyll concentration has a significant influence on the electrical performance of DSSCs. The study demonstrates the potential of pineapple leaf waste as a sustainable natural dye source for DSSC applications, contributing to agricultural waste valorization and the development of environmentally friendly renewable energy technologies ER -
