Malaysia is a tropical country which means warm and rain through the year. It is also receiving heavy rainfall for the whole year. Annual rainfall in Peninsular Malaysia is about 2470 mm or 324 billion m3 compared to 10.8 billion m3 per person for domestic, industry and agriculture purpose. However, water supply is in problems due to a lack of rainfall catchment areas and river pollution at water intakes. As a result in the 1998, there are unpleasant water supply disruptions at Klang and Langat Valley for 1.8 million residents. The rainwater harvesting is one of the methods used to overcome this problem. The study area of this thesis is Mosque Bukit Indah, Ampang, Selangor. The objectives of this study are to determine the quantity of rainwater collected used for the rainwater harvesting system at Mosque of Bukit Indah and to analyze the reliability of the existing system. This system includes catchments area, conveyance system, underground storage tank and plumbing system. The rainfall data and water level data in the underground storage tank have been collected to make the analysis. The analysis of this study divided by three conditions which are rainfall without usage, rainfall with usage and no rainfall with usage. For rainfall without usage and rainfall with usage, the data divided by overflow and without overflow. The overflow height is 135m for the depth of the tank. Based on the analysis, the longest period without rain is seven days and the design of the storage tank was based on 14 days without rain. Based on the rainwater usage ratio 27.14% of rainwater collected has been used under without overflow condition and 6.9% of the rainwater collected has been used under overflow condition. The total usage per day is 2.8172 m3. It can be said that, the rainwater collected is not fully utilized because there is a large amount of the rainwater wasted through the overflow pipe. -Author
