<subfield code="a">Soils is an important element that must be considered before develop any construction. The good condition of soils is the most important aspect to make sure the structure or building that constructed did not faced any consequences in future. The compaction test must be carried out to increase the strength of the soils. However, there are some factors that might influence the compaction test result. The factors are moisture content, soil type and compaction effort. The objective of this study is to determine the effects of different types of soil on compaction curve. In addition, the range of Optimum moisture content (OMC) and Maximum dry density (MDD) value can also determined. The data collected are from various places and were chosen randomly. The soils are collected Maran, Universiti Malaysia Pahang and Gambang. From the laboratory test analysis, the value of Liquid limit (LL), Plastic limit (PL) and Plasticity index (PI) were obtained. In addition, the soils were classified by percent of gravel, sand, silt and clay according Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). The study shows that the compaction curves were produced when the value of dry density and moisture content are plotted. The compaction curve can also be divided into four basic types. There are Type A, Type B, Type C and Type D. The different types of compaction curve show the range of OMC and MDD value. The range values of OMC (%) for type A is 9.5% to 16%, type B is 12.5% to 18%, type C is 4% to 21% and type D is 19%. While the value ofMDD (kN/m3) for type A is 16.5 kN/m3 to 18.6 kN/m3, type B 15.8 leN/m3 to 18.3 kN/m3, type C 14.2 kN/m3 to 16.3 kN/m3 and type D 15.6 kN/m3. As a conclusion, the study also proved that, different types of soils produced different type of compaction curve shape where the range of optimum moisture content (OMC) and maximum dry density (MDD) value can also determined.-Author</subfield>
