It is because surface roughness affects the functional characteristics of products. Quality measure and surface roughness in mechanical parts depends on turning parameters during turning process. This study focuses on effects of cutting parameters such as cutting speed and depth of cut on surface roughness quality during turning operation of pure aluminium. The most optimum condition of the controlled parameter will also be studied. Using Taguchi approach, nine experiments has been carried out and with further S/N ratio method, the optimum condition of each parameter is known. A predictive equation based on ANOVA was produced to determine the selected controlled parameters and predictive equation were accurate to within the limits of the measurement instrument. Based on result analysis, the most optimum condition for machining of pure aluminium using lathe machine is the lowest level of depth of cut with the highest level of cutting speed. Besides that, using ANOVA approach, depth of cut was selected as the most significant factor in this study. It gives the highest effect on surface roughness compared to cutting speed. However, some recommendation can be made to improve the details of this study such as using the suitable cutting speed for aluminium and using a better precision perthometer. As a conclusion, this area of research would benefit for future studies especially in industrial environment. 0aSurface roughness 0aMetal-cutting 0aMachining
