GSM modem is a type of device that accepts a SIM card, and functioning over a subscription to a mobile operator which is almost similar with functions of a mobile phone (nowsms.com, 2013). In this report, my system had implementing gsm technology which is sms technology into the library management system. The purpose of adding this type of technology is library management system need to provide a convenient system for the users. Just in case, the users forgot their password, they can regain their password in a short period of time with the help of sms notifications. This feature can make sure users can access into the system even though they forget their password. By inserting their name and identity card number into the system, it will forward a message about their login password to users’ cellphone number. GSM modem allows computer to communicate over the mobile network, this feature enable computer to forward and receiving SMS and MMS messages (nowsms.com, 2013). In the developing of new library management system, this features would help the library to send a reminder messages to the users if their books borrowed date is almost expire or already expire. It not only increasing the functionality of the library management but it will ensure books are returned on times and others members who want to borrow the same books can borrow it right away. Despite of that, the library management system is also completed with the basic function of handling the books database, users’ profile, managing the books information on adding, saving, deleting, and updating data, users’ registrations and lastly users’ login system.
