1-3 Present Research Study of Diesel Spray The research presented in this thesis deals with the effects of injection pressure of diesel fuel and the ambient temperature of the spray chamber on droplet evaporation process at spray boundary region using a nano-spark shadowgraph photography technique and a rapid compreSSIOn machine. The employment of a nano-spark shadowgraph photography technique enables to capture a never before high quality of still image of the fuel liquid spray, vapor phase and flying droplets. Meanwhile, the usage of a rapid compression machine enables to generate the high pressure and high ambient temperature inside the spray chamber thus simulates the actual diesel engine ambient condition. The microscopic measurement of the evaporating spray such as droplets evaporation process was investigated for further understanding of the atomization process of the fuel. An image analysis technique was employed for further investigation and the investigation area was concentrated at diesel spray boundary where the luminous flame is first observed after ignition delay period. -Author
