The employment of a nano-spark shadowgraph photography technique enables to capture a never before high quality of still image of the fuel liquid spray, vapor phase and flying droplets. Meanwhile, the usage of a rapid compression machine enables to generate the high pressure and high ambient temperature inside the spray chamber thus simulates the actual diesel engine ambient condition. The microscopic measurement of the evaporating spray such as droplets evaporation process was investigated for further understanding of the atomization process of the fuel. An image analysis technique was employed for further investigation and the investigation area was concentrated at diesel spray boundary where the luminous flame is first observed after ignition delay period. -Author ER -
