This process involves huge amount of energy consumption. 1.81437kg of bauxite ore is required to produce 0.453592kg of aluminium. Recycling of aluminium requires only 5% of energy for extraction of the primary aluminium from its ore. Owing to the adverse implication of the high Fe-content in the recycled aluminium alloys, it is essential to modify the brittle Fe-bearing phases. In this work, detailed investigation was done on the effect of various alloying additions on the morphological changes of the Fe-rich intermetallics in the aluminium alloy made from recycled automotive scrap. The objectives of this study was to conduct melting and casting experiments by meltinoculation of aluminium automotive scrap, to investigate the morphological changes of Fe-rich intermetallics in the new aluminium alloys developed and to understand the effect of melt inoculation on the phase-transformations.2 aFaculty of Manufacturing EngineeringxDissertations 0aUniversities and CollegesxDissertations 0aTheses
