Aggressive bauxite mining in Malaysia had caused serious problems towards humans and environments such water pollution, air pollution, and damaged to ecosystem of aquatic life. A research was commissioned to solve the issue of contaminants that been discharged into the stream as effluents and polluted the source drinking water. Bauxite wastewater has been collected near Port Kuantan, Kuantan and filtration method was carried out by using Hibiscus Cannabinus L (Kenaf) fibres to partially remove toxins readily available in the wastewater. The semi- clean water had went through further process of coagulation- flocculation- sedimentation by using Moringa Oleifera (Kelor) which exhibits the potential to reduce the pH, dissolved oxygen and heavy metals; Cadmium and Zinc from the wastewater. The initial pH was 4.63 which is acidic was improvised to be 7.80 alkaline which is safe for public use and aquatic life. The dissolved oxygen was reduced significantly due to properties of Moringa itself which forms a layer of oil on top of the water and disallow the penetration oxygen from surrounding air. The reading of Cadmium and Zinc has been observed by Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) method and it had achieved the permissible limit as respective of 0.003mg/L and 0.05 mg/L as per standard of AAS standard. The experiment have shown the capability of Hibiscus Cannabinus and Moringa Oleifera can be in water treatment as it is less expensive and easily available in Malaysia. A further treatment might need such as boiling and chlorination for safe drink use and pure clean water in daily usage. Further recovery and reusability of the filter and coagulants for enhanced recovery of the pollutants has to be studied for their commerliazation.
