Civil Engineering) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang – 2016; Bibliography : p. 75-80 N2 - World is now facing the same issue on water resources. Only 0.7% of the water supply is accessible or consumption and unfortunately, it is disproportionately distributed. Each person in this world needs clean and safe water in their daily life, yet not everybody has an access to clean water supply due to several factor. The availability of safe and clean water seems not to be problem in town and cities, where consumers generally receive a constant supply of water with high quality. The inaccessibility of water which is fit for use is quiet thoughtful problem in rural areas. Most people in this area use water directly from available and often contaminated sources without any treatment and therefore are exposed to many water related diseases. UMP had made initiative to produce a water supply system in rural area which is called as WASRA. WASRA is a one of the new systems in rural area designed to treat the groundwater and rainwater harvesting by using pre-treatment and membrane filtration before being distributed to the aborigine community. It new solution to encourage an incremental improvement in water quality at the most affordable cost and user-friendly and operate to eliminate the contaminants such as heavy metal, non-organic and inorganic matter and also microorganism that could affect the human health. There are 4 parameters tested in this research which are total coliform, E.coli, turbidity, and total suspended solid (TSS). All the parameter were tested referred to Standard Methods for Examination of Water and Wastewater by American Public Health Association (APHA, 2005). This research involved in identifying the present pathogenic bacteria in groundwater and rainwater harvesting and also to determine the effectiveness of WASRA system whether this system can achieve 100% efficiency in Pathogen removal for ablution purposed at UMP mosque. The three sample from groundwater, rainwater harvesting and WASRA are collected to undergo experiments in laboratory. All the parameter tested are comply with the NSDWQ. As a result, WASRA system has successfully 100% of removal coliform bacteria in groundwater and rainwater harvesting. WASRA system are also effective in removing 100% TSS and reducing turbidity of groundwater and rainwater harvesting which are about 96.24 % and 96.93 % respectively. In overall, the WASRA system is great enough in treating groundwater and rainwater harvesting and capable in removing coliform bacteria to be a drinking water for human to consume UR - http://ecollib.ump.edu.my/id/eprint/25767 ER -
