Rapid development increases the water resources demand. There are factors that affecting the increase of water demand such as increasing development in domestic, industry, irrigation and recreation. Therefore, good estimation of the characteristics of streamflow is required. The water intake from river or stream is very much dependent on the sufficiency of flow under drought conditions. Sufficient information about low flow characteristics of a river or stream would prevent deficit in water content. Since the study of low flow characteristics is quite important for development of the country, efforts to develop idea about study of low flow should be taken seriously in order to ensure this country has sufficient and useful information about low flow. Several methods have been identified to study the low flow characteristics. Sungai Lembing (upstream) was selected as study area for the estimation of low flow characteristics along Sungai Kuantan which is using the 7QIO method. The 7QlO is the lowest 7-day average flow that occurs (on average) once every 10 years. By using frequency analysis 7QlO, characteristics of I-day flow and 7-day flow can be estimated for various return periods. From analysis, 7QlO value at Sungai Lembing is 1.53m3/s and the water demand needed at Sungai Lembing is 9.375xlO-3m3/s. Hence, water supply resource at this area is meet the water demand needed. -Author 0aStream ecology 0aRivers 0aHydrology
