Project Paper (Bachelor of Engineering in Manufacturing Engineering (Hons.)) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang – 2016

Car bumper beam is a structure attached or integrated to the front and rear of an automobile to absorb impact in a minor collision. Currently, most of the researchers focus on substitution of new material for car bumper beam. Natural fibres, as reinforcement, have recently attracted the attention of researchers because of their advantages over other established materials. They are environmentally-friendly, fully biodegradable, abundantly available, non-toxic, non-abrasive, renewable, and cheap, and have low density. Due to these facts, they are used in transportation, military applications, building and construction industries, packaging, consumer products, etc. The objective of this paper is to show the application of polymer reinforced with natural fibre for car bumper beam. There are three works conducted in this project, first, collect the bio reinforced composite database. Second, use QFD and AHP method for selection of best material for car bumper beam. Lastly, validate the simulation using Catia and Ansys software for the best selected material.
