This study shows a study to investigate the capability and performance of Vertiver sp. and Giant Salvinia sp. to discharge and remediate contaminant substances such as metal or organic materials that attend in the water sample collected. This study is being applied to the manmade lake that contains heavy metals. Heavy metals content can cause many effect to human health. It is important to treat the water. Thus, a new technology based on environmental friendly and economic are required. Phytoremediation concept is the best technology to be used in order to solve the water pollutant. Phytoremediation takes advantages of plants nutrient utilization processes to in water and nutrients through roots. This study also focused on best plant that shows the effective plant in purifying contaminant through phytoremediation process. Focused on the use of the root zone in order to clean up the pollutants. The parameters for the sample to be used is Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), pH, Turbidity, Total Suspended Solid (TSS), and Nitrate (NO2). The plant species that will be used in this research comes from floating species which is Salvinia sp and Vertiver sp. The water that comes from Taman Pertanian Indera Mahkota has been collected and tested at the laboratory to know the initial condition for the water sample. Then the water sample will be left together with the selected plant and the changes to the water sample will be observe and tested every week and the duration for this treatment takes about eight weeks. The result have analyze using the Statistics Package for the Science Social to the accurate data an average of the result before and after the treatment. Using the SPSS data, all data for each parameter will be calculated and the percentage of removal are calculated. After compared with the all percentage removal for all parameter, Vertiver sp. has the highest percentage removal which is BOD 90.11%, COD 6.91%, TSS 10.52%, and Nitrite 100%. This will conclude that vertiver sp. Is the most potential plant species in remediation of the contaminants.
