The main objective of this thesis is to propose the safest route for evacuation within the facility based on the results from the consequence modelling of a simulated toxic release chemical using Areal Location of Hazardous Atmospheres (ALOHA) software version 5.4.7. The first objective is to identify the most risk adverse of the chemical there and it was completed using the triangulation method of walkthrough observation, semi-structured interview and document review. From those sources it was identified to be the titanium tetrachloride as the chemical which posed the most risk to the facility. Moving on, using the data provided from the person in charge and from the Control of Major Industrial Hazards (CIMAH) report provided as well as the meteorological data obtained from the Meteorological department, is then input into ALOHA 5.4.7 which helps in simulation the simulated dispersal of toxic release of titanium tetrachloride. The program also displays the threat zone which denote regions of severity of exposure to said chemical which then using Google Earth is overlaid over a map of the facility. The threat zone overlay on the actual map gives an accurate depiction of the impact of the toxic release on the facility. In the facility itself there are several pre-existing assembly points for safe evacuations. Therefore, the correct and safe evacuation route to the assembly point for the personnel was proposed should there be a toxic release in this particular scenario. Proposals for evacuations to different assembly points or even outside the facility are given in this thesis later in the discussions part.20aFaculty of Engineering TechnologyxDissertations 0aUniversities and CollegesxDissertations 0aTheses
