Much expenditure has been delivered to resolve this serious matter. Unfortunately, most all of the effort are to no avail without the people‟s awareness and responsibility towards clean environment and nature to prevent this phenomenon spreading worst, researchers have found a new solution by using the power of the nature and all the natural resources around us. The method is called Phytoremediation. This concept improvised technique from the wetland system. The system is an alternative in wastewater engineering especially for water treatment. For the treatment process to be completed, the water treatment acts as secondary filter to our wastewater. Amazingly, the wetland systems can operate on its own without much maintenance works. This study was conducted to explore the ability and potential of using plants species to remediate effluent from industrial wastewater. To achieve the objectives, three selected submerged plants species has been chosen for this project. The plants Utricularia sp (bladderwort), Hydrilla verticillata sp, and Ceratophyllum Demersum sp. (coontail). All these plants were tested with wastewater from oxidation pond in Pasir Gudang, Johor for seven weeks. The water parameters that have been monitored were BOD, COD, Oil and grease, Nitrate, pH, Nitrite, Zinc, TSS, Turbidity, Dissolved Oxygen, and Temperature. From the overall experiment results, we found that Hydrilla verticillata species contribute the highest parameters compare to the others. It is the most suitable plant in the removal of contamination in the industrial wastewater. The highest percentage of removal by the most potential plant, waterweed, was 90-100% which remove completely the contamination and heavy metal in the industrial wastewater.20aFaculty of Civil Engineering and Earth ResourcesxDissertations 0aUniversities and CollegesxDissertations 0aTheses
