Subject(s): Dissertation note: Project paper (Bachelor of Civil Engineering) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang - 2007 Abstract: Groundwater is one of the most suitable alternative of water supply which we can rely on in this era because of its large quantity that is nearly 30% of the total global freshwater. In this thesis, a case study is conducted in one of the area which uses groundwater as its main daily supply that is Bebar sub-district in Pekan, Pahang. The case study is mainly focus on the quantity of supply by the treatment plant whether it is design to meet the demand from the increasing population of Bebar sub¬district. The methodology used in fmding the capability of the Treatment plant to supply water is by doing data collection on the population in Bebar sub-district, and the water demand until 20 years for the residents and comparing it to the Water Treatment plant design capacity. The water demand is calculated by a standard formula by Malaysian Water Association (MW A) for water demand. In situ tests and lab experiments are also conducted to find out the quality of the groundwater extracted whether it comply with the WHO Drinking Water Standards 1993 Guidelines Level. The parameters which are being focus on are Iron (Fe), salinity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), pH, and Conductivity. From the conducted quantity analysis, it can be concluded that the recent design capacity of the water treatment plant is able to meet the water demand of Bebar Sub-district residents for 20 years. Meanwhile, for the quality analysis conducted, among the 5 parameters checked, only the Iron parameters is showing an undesirable results where the content is higher than the acquired standard (0.3 mg/l). Nevertheless, the quality of the groundwater at Nenasi is still considered safe to be used as drinking water since there is no health effects occurred so far. -Author
