520	3		_aThe advancement of technology and changing times have led to the emergence of new fiqh issues that were not discussed in classical texts. Contemporary fatwas evolve in line with the flexible nature of fiqh, accommodating changes in time and context. Therefore, knowledge of maqasid shariah in fiqh education is crucial to ensuring a better understanding of Islamic rulings. Some tahfiz students struggle to understand the wisdom and ‘illah behind fiqh rulings. Previous studies found that the absence of a specific fiqh curriculum and the limited schedule between fiqh subjects and Quran memorization impact students' mastery. Tahfiz institutions that adopt diniyyah or turath education face textual rigidity in classical fiqh books. The lack of continuous oversight also contributes to gaps in understanding Islamic jurisprudence. The understanding of maqasid shariah is believed to help overcome this rigidity and enable students to grasp fiqh rulings more effectively. However, it requires a solid foundation in usul fiqh, qawaid fiqhiyyah, and arabic to prevent overly liberal interpretations. As tahfiz students are often regarded as religious references in society, exposure to maqasid shariah facilitates their understanding of Quranic rulings. Therefore, this study aims to explain the role of maqasid shariah in contemporary fiqh rulings, analyze the fiqh syllabus content in tahfiz institutions in Kuantan, and assess the extent to which maqasid shariah principles are integrated into their fiqh curriculum. This study selects five tahfiz institutions in Kuantan representing three different curricula. Data is collected through document analysis, interviews, and non-participant observation. The findings indicate that maqasid shariah principles are incorporated into fiqh teachings, though at varying levels depending on the syllabus used. This study aims to provide clearer insights and propose improvements to enhance students' understanding.
