520 3 _aThe study explores the development of antibacterial films using bacterial cellulose (BC) and Vitex negundo extract, targeting applications in wound healing and other industries. Bacterial cellulose, a biocompatible, biodegradable, and renewable polymer, serves as a structural base, while the medicinal properties of Vitex negundo, known for its antimicrobial and antioxidant activities, enhance the film’s functional properties. The Vitex negundo extract was obtained using methanol Soxhlet extraction, and BC was synthesized via fermentation of Komagataeibacter nataicola. The films were prepared by incorporating varying concentrations (0.75% and 1%) of Vitex negundo extract into an alginate-BC matrix. Characterization of the films was conducted using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, which confirmed the presence of functional groups from the extract. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) demonstrated improved thermal stability with higher concentrations of Vitex negundo. The antioxidant activity, measured through DPPH assays, exhibited a concentration-dependent radical scavenging effect, with the 1% Vitex negundo film showing superior activity. Antimicrobial testing against E. coli and Bacillus revealed significant inhibitory effects, particularly at higher extract concentrations. Water sensitivity tests indicated reduced moisture content, further enhancing the film's suitability for biomedical.
