520 3 _aThe increasing global demand for sustainable energy has spurred innovation in biodiesel production, particularly in tackling significant challenges like the precipitation of sterol glucoside (SGs), which can hinder the fuel performance in colder climates. This study explores the preparation and characterization of a hybrid calcium oxide impregnate silica (CaO.SiO2) adsorbent made from natural waste materials, including seashells and rice husk. Advanced characterization methods such as FESEM, BET, FTIR and TGA confirmed the adsorbent’s mesoporous structure, thermal stability, and chemical composition, making it effective for SGs adsorption. Batch adsorption experiments revealed an optimal SGs removal efficiency of 83.42% under specific conditions (4.5% loading, 60℃, 60 minutes). The adsorption treatment significantly enhanced the quality of biodiesel, lowering the acid value from 0.937 mg KOH/g to 0.561 mg KOH/g and improving the oxidative stability by reducing the iodine value to 41.80 g/100g. These results highlight the potential of eco-friendly, waste-derived adsorbents to effectively tackle the biodiesel purification challenges, contributing to greener and more efficient energy solutions while supporting waste reduction and sustainability initiatives.
