520 3 _aThe Malaysian palm oil industry is experiencing a significant economic impact as a result of increased crude palm oil production, which has resulted in an increase in POMSE, a by-product of biological treatment that requires additional treatment to comply with DOE standards. The objective of this study is to treat and analyse POMSE using BECC that complies with regulations before it is discharged into water bodies. Experiments were conducted by analysing COD, BOD, and colour tests on POMSE using the APHA method, the O&G test using the Hexane Extractable Gravimetric Method (Method 10056), turbidity analysis using HACH Method 8195, and the voltage generated by BECC using a multimeter. The results show that under optimal conditions, the effluent COD, BOD, O&G, colour, and turbidity values were reduced following the treatment process. In terms of O&G, the effluent POMSE sample contains only 18 mg/L, representing an 83.49% reduction from the influent POMSE. The influent has a colour analysis value of 439 mg/L. The POMSE treatment process's final effluent has a colour value of 432 mg/L. The efficiency of colour removal is only 1.59%. Furthermore, the effluent POMSE sample had a BOD content of 692 mg/L, 78.76% lower than the influent POMSE. COD levels in the effluent POMSE sample were also reduced by 92.33%. The overall percentage removal of O&G is 83.49%, with BOD and COD removal rates of 78.76% and 92.33%, respectively. The study reveals that all effluent POMSE parameters meet the Department of Environment Malaysia's standard discharge limit, except for colour. The removal efficiency percentage of the BECC system for treating POMSE wastewater more than 75%, indicating its potential as a cost-effective and energygenerating alternative. An enhancement to colour degradation was considered. The use of activated carbon in the system improved the colour performance of POMSE wastewater.
