520 3 _aPharmaceutical wastewater, generated from the production, use, and disposal of pharmaceutical products, can have environmental and human health implications. One of the current limitations in photodegradation processes is the challenge of achieving mild operating conditions while optimizing catalyst dosage. This study aims to study the effect of titanium dioxide loading on activated carbon (AC) towards photodegradation of PCM and the effect of catalyst dosage. CTAB was used as a green electrolyte for synthesizing supported AC via electrochemical methods. The morphological, structural, and optical properties of the synthesized catalyst were investigated using X-Ray diffraction, FTIR, and FESEM. Based on result of titanium dioxide loading, percentage of degradation of PCM at 5wt%, 10wt% and 15wt% are 69%,73% and 56% respectively. Besides that, percentage of degradation of PCM at 0.1g/l,0.2g/l,0.3g/l,0.4g/l and 0.5g/l are 42%,73%,78%,83% and 91% respectively. The 10% loading titanium dioxide impregnated onto activated carbon achieved the highest removal of PCM at 73%. At the highest loading of titanium dioxide (15wt%), the percentage of removal PCM start to decrease. The reason can be because of the accumulation of some nanosized TiO₂ particles on the surface of 15-TiO₂/AC, which can lower the photoreactive sites for degradation and decrease the efficient absorption of UV radiation. The photodegradation of PCM increased as the catalyst dosage increased. The highest removal of PCM of 91% within effect on catalyst dosage was at 0.5g/l. In order to achieve 100% removal, continue the experiment up to 1g/l. This may be explained by an increase in the photocatalysts' accessible surface area, which allows for the production of more active radicals. In conclusion, impregnation loading method with 10% loading weight achieved the highest removal of PCM. The photodegradation of PCM increased as the catalyst dosage increased. To improve results, the experiment was repeated up to 100% removal of PCM.
