We explored a Cu (II)-coordinated GO/PVA nanocomposite using a environmentally friendly synthesis method. Initially, GO was dispersed in deionized water with ultrasonication to obtain a homogeneous solution. Simultaneously, PVA was dissolved in deionized water at 90 °C and cooled to room temperature, resulting in a transparent solution. CuSO4·5H2O was dissolved in deionized water, and the three solutions (GO, PVA, CuSO4) were sonicated to achieve a homogeneous mixture. The Cu (II)/GO ratio was consistently set at 0.002 mol/g. The mixed solution underwent coordination at 40 °C for 24 hours and was then dried in Teflon Petri dishes at 40 °C which then were cut into film strips. The study demonstrates the potential of the Cu (II)-coordinated GO/PVA nanocomposite as a high-performance material with improved mechanical properties. The highest stress observed in the 2 wt.% copper-coordinated GO/PVA nanocomposite was 36.2 MPa, indicating an 8% improvement compared to samples without copper and a significant 59.9% enhancement compared to pristine PVA. These results highlight the crucial role of copper in facilitating the interaction between GO and PVA, contributing to the nanocomposite's superior mechanical performance. The environmentally friendly and cost-effective synthesis method makes it a viable option for large-scale production of graphene-polymer composites with enhanced dispersion and interaction.
