520 3 _aPalm oil mill effluent, also known as POME, is a wastewater produced by the milling of palm oil that needs to be effectively treated before being released into waterways. This is due to its extremely polluting characteristics. POME has a high COD and BOD, making it a highly polluting wastewater. Only 10% of the biomass used in palm oil mills in Malaysia is recycled to generates electricity, while the remaining 90% is disposed of as waste. However, biogas production coming from POME through anaerobic digestion contributes to GHG’s emission that could cause harm to the environment if it is not treated properly. POME undergoes anaerobic digestor to form biogas and with a further continuity with dry reforming process, biogas from POME can be converted into syngas, a mixture of H2 and CO. This research aims in using simulation of Aspen Plus to study the overall process of POME biogas to syngas production. The objective of this research aims to study the effect of POME compositions fed into anaerobic digestor towards syngas production and to study the effect of reaction temperature towards syngas production. Aspen Plus was used to simulate the process at range 500℃-850℃ in methane dry reforming. From the simulation, an analysis of CH4 and CO2 conversion and syngas production yield has been observed. From the simulation works, it was found that POME compositions with the highest amount of carbohydrate produced the highest conversions of CH4 and CO2 at 86.8% and 100.0% respectively and highest yields of H2 and CO at 91.4% and 92.5% respectively. Higher temperatures at 750 ℃ also led to higher conversions of CH4 and CO2 at 86.8% and 99.9% respectively and higher yield of H2 and CO at 91.3% and 92.5% respectively. Hence, the POME feed compositions and reaction temperature in methane dry reforming did affect the conversion and yield of syngas production from biogas generated from POME.
