520 3 _aEthers can be used alone or in combination with other ethers or alkanes as fuel addictive, by employing ethyl tert-butyl ether (ETBE) to convert naphtha to petrol or to increase the octane of lower-grade petrol. ETBE used as blending agents for fuels because it’s have high ability to decrease the amount of carbon monoxide produces in the exhaust gas. ETBE is the primary anti-knock additives used in gasoline however it is less explored by investigators. For the purpose of comparing the binary mixture of ETBE with 2,2,4-trimethylpentane and heptane to other binary mixtures, the following measurements are made: density, viscosity, excess molar volume, and viscosity deviation. The results of this study can be used to improve understanding of the characteristics of binary mixtures of ETBE with 2,2,4-trimethylpentane and heptane at different temperatures, which can then be used as an additive for the majority of petrol in the future. There are two objectives in this work which are to measure and to predict density, viscosity using Jouyban-Acree model, to calculate and to predict excess molar volume and viscosity deviation using Redlich-Kister equation for binary mixtures of ETBE with 2,2,4-trimethylpentane and heptane at various temperature. For density and viscosity were correlated accurately using Jouyban-Acree Model with MRD values, this indicating the back-calculated value using estimated coefficients is close with experimental value. The positive trend of 𝑉𝐸 for both binary mixtures can be explained by the formation of weak specification interactions dominated by dispersion forces, which result in less effective packing of binary components. an obvious increase in 𝑉𝐸 with rise in temperature can be attributed to increased average molecular kinetic energy. The viscosity deviation values are negative for all mixtures which are weak intermolecular. The negative deviation observed at entire composition range may be attributed to the strength of chemical or specific interaction such as hydrogen binding between the unlike molecules. Thus, it can be concluded that the negative deviations for ETBE + TMP and ETBE + n-heptane, but the magnitude of viscosity deviation for the ETBE-TMP binary mixture is greater than MTBE-n-heptane binary mixture. ETBE + TMP mixture indicate the inclusion of small molecules of TMP in the structure of larger molecules such as ETBE. This suggests the breaking up of the self-associated TMP components into ETBE molecules. On the other hand, since both of the components in the MTBE-DIPE binary combination are less associating, less interaction between the ether-alkane group is anticipated.
