520 3 _aAmmonia which usually presents as ammonium ion (NH₄⁺) contaminates ecosystems and also harms human health. The research focused on the ammonium removal from industrial wastewater using mixed culture. The wastewater sample containing ammonia from TAF Agriculture Trading & Services in Melaka was preliminarily treated using a mixed culture. The inoculum sizes were varied at 5%, 10%, and 15% (v/v), and the samples were taken every 24 for 96-h treatment. When the inoculum size was increased, the remaining ammonium concentration decreased. The ammonium concentration reduced from 118 to 35 mg/L (70.3% reduction) at 96 h treatment using 15% (v/v) inoculum size. The results show that ammonia in the wastewater could be reduced using the mixed culture.
