520 3 _aFor industrial operations in industries like chemical engineering, pharmaceuticals, and food production to be optimized, effective multiphase mixing in stirred tanks is essential. Enhancing energy efficiency, mixing performance, and product quality requires an understanding of the link between power number (Po), just suspended speed (NJS), and mixing time. Using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, this study examines these correlations in order to offer important insights into the functioning of stirred tanks. The main objective of this research is to study the effect of Po on Njs and mixing time in stirred tank. ANSYS Fluent was used to model a fully baffled flat bottom cylindrical stirred tank with a down pumping six-bladed pitched blade turbine. To analyze fluid flow and solid-liquid interactions under different operating conditions, the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) turbulence model, multiple reference frame (MRF), and discrete phase model (DPM) were used. Experimental results from the literature were used to validate numerical data. As a result, positive correlation between Po and Njs is revealed which demonstrating higher power input is required to reach just suspended condition at increased solid loading. Likewise, mixing time was significantly affected by Po with higher power inputs subsequent in shorter mixing times. This study also emphasizes the influence of tank geometry, impeller design and solid liquid properties on suspension dynamics and energy efficiency. In conclusion, this study shows that improving power input and impeller design can greatly improve stirred tank performance, lowering energy usage while preserving efficient mixing and suspension. The results offer useful recommendations for enhancing industrial mixing procedures, resulting in more economical and environmentally friendly operations.
