520 3 _aActive packaging containing natural antioxidants was a promising technology for extending the shelf life of biodegradable foods. Unfortunately, the lack of sufficient mechanical characteristics in biopolymers like hybrid semi-carrageenan limits their applicability as food protection packaging film. This work investigates the development and characterization of a hybrid film for food packaging applications that was made of gelatine and carrageenan. The main objective was to synthesis hybrid carrageenan/gelatine film strength with different concentration of Eugenol as active ingredient. Eugenol will be combined with hybrid semi- carrageenan (2% w/v), Glycerol (40 % v/v based on weight of hybrid semi-carrageenan), and gelatine (4% w/v). Based on improved film characterisation (mechanical properties, physical properties, antioxidant release test, and FTIR) on the films, the effects of the antioxidant agent, Eu were observed. The characteristics of the active films will be examined using the following methods: mechanical properties (tensile strength (TS) and elongation at break (EAB)), physical properties (water solubility, moisture content (MC), opacity measurement, and thickness measurement), antioxidant release test (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH) assay), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The study will involve different concentrations of eugenol (Eu) which was (0.05, 0.15, 0.25, 0.35, 0.5 ml of Eu). As a result, Eugenol, present in the SRC/gelatine films, exhibits strong antioxidant properties, as confirmed by the DPPH inhibition assay and the release study emphasizes the controlled eugenol release into a 95% food simulant, highlighting its sustained antioxidant activity, making it suitable for food packaging applications.
