520 3 _aBacterial cellulose (BC) is a biopolymer with excellent biocompatibility, high water-holding capacity, and superior mechanical properties, making it a promising candidate for wound healing applications. However, its mechanical strength and durability require further enhancement to optimize its performance as a wound dressing material. This study investigates the effect of Ag impregnation on the mechanical properties of BC to improve its structural integrity and functional efficacy. Microfibrils of BC are extracted from nata de coco. The nata de coco was purified and blended into wet slurry then was oven dried. The dried BC film then was cut into strip and immersed in different concentration of Ag (0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0%). The BC-Ag produced then were tested for their mechanical properties using tensile testing. As a result, tensile strength of BC-Ag increased as the concentration of Ag increase. However, at 2.0% of Ag, the tensile strength shows a slight decreased as it passed the optimum concentration of Ag in BC. The morphological analysis of the BC films was conducted using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM). FESEM revealed an interconnected porous structure with a rough surface of BC-Ag composites. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of functional groups from Ag, verifying their successful incorporation into the BC matrix. These findings indicate that the modified BC films possess enhanced mechanical properties, making them more suitable for wound dressing applications.
