520 3 _aThe increasing global focus on sustainability in pharmaceutical manufacturing has driven the search for natural and eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic excipients. Utilizing agricultural waste produce excipients in pharmaceutical manufacturing is a sustainable alternative, as it requires minimal processing and low raw material costs. This study aims to investigate the physicochemical properties of disintegrants derived from banana peel mucilage. Banana peel mucilage was cleaned and dried and subjected to an extraction process. The resulting extract was dried to obtain fine powder and analysed for its physicochemical properties and functionality. From the Molisch test, the banana peel mucilage extracts exhibited the positive results which indicated the presence of polysaccharides. The PXRD analysis reveals a semi-crystalline structure of banana peel mucilage powder. TGA and DTG analyses of banana peel mucilage powder show three main decomposition stages: moisture removal, polysaccharide breakdown, and decomposition of stable residues, including inorganic materials. 1% w/v concentration, banana peel mucilage powder exhibits a viscosity of 10mPa.s at 25°C, demonstrating low flow resistance. These properties enhance its hydration and swelling capacity, making it a promising disintegrant for tablet formulations. It aligns with the growing trend of sustainable and eco-friendly excipients in the pharmaceutical industry.
