520 3 _aCorrosion is a major issue for metallic materials, leading to premature degradation and failure in various industries. This research investigates the development of a microcapsule chitosan-based coating as an effective and sustainable solution for corrosion protection. The coating solution was prepared using microcapsule chitosan powder, linseed oil, colour pigment, and rosin, aiming to enhance the corrosion resistance of metal substrates. The prepared coating was characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to analyse the surface morphology and chemical composition. The corrosion protective performance was evaluated through ASTM standard testing and NaCl solution immersion tests, which simulated real-world conditions. The results demonstrated that the microcapsule chitosan-based coatings exhibited significant corrosion resistance, with the encapsulated chitosan providing controlled release of corrosion inhibitors. The SEM analysis showed a uniform and smooth coating, while FTIR confirmed the incorporation of key chemical components in the coating structure. The NaCl immersion tests further validated the effectiveness of the coating in protecting metal substrates from corrosion. This study highlights the potential of microcapsule chitosan-based coatings as an environmentally friendly and efficient alternative for corrosion protection in industrial applications.
