520 3 _aRice bran, a nutrient-rich by-product of rice milling, is often wasted due to lack of utilization methods. Raw rice bran consists of low protein content and high crude fiber content that are not suitable for animal to digest. Therefore, the introduction of Solid-State Fermentation (SSF) can enhance the nutritional profile of rice bran and provide a long-term solution to agricultural waste management. This study was one-factor-at-a-time method (OFAT) which aims to optimize SSF processes by investigating effects of varying fermentation days (0 to 5 days) and types of bulking agents (rice straw, sugarcane bagasse, woodchips and plastic straw) on the nutrient content of rice bran using SSF using Rhizopus oligosporus. A series of assays were used to determine the nutrient content of fermented rice bran, which included protein content (PC), reducing sugar (RS), total phenolic content (TPC), lactic acid (LA) and crude fiber (CF) using Bradford assay, DNS assay, FeCl3 assay and AOAC protocols respectively. The optimal fermentation time is 3 days using sugarcane bagasse (SGB) as the bulking agent, attributed to its lignocellulosic waste, serves as substrate and bulking agent, making it the most effective bulking agent, which enhancing PC from 1.35 mg/g to 5.46 mg/g by 304.44% and reduce CF from 12.91 % to 3.03% by 76.53% of rice bran. Scaling up with on-farm fermenters and use of R. oligosporus produced high protein fungal mass are recommended to further boost protein yield and suitable for animal feed.
