Using a cross-sectional quantitative design, data were collected through face-to-face questionnaires from 254 academic staff across various faculties. The study aimed to identify prevalent micromanagement behaviours, evaluate their psychological impacts, and explore the relationship between micromanagement intensity and mental health outcomes such as emotional exhaustion, job demotivation, cognitive overload, and interpersonal detachment. The results revealed a high prevalence of control-centric supervision, with the most significant psychological effect being emotional exhaustion. Statistical analysis using Pearson’s correlation confirmed a significant but modest relationship between micromanagement and key indicators of mental strain. These findings affirm that micromanagement is not merely an administrative style but a psychosocial risk that undermines employee well-being. The study advocates for autonomy-supportive leadership models and positions micromanagement as a critical organisational concern within academic institutions.
