| 520 | 3 | _aAbsorption refrigeration has a potential to become among the most effective refrigeration unit due to low energy consumption and eco-friendly. However the problem of this unit, it is relatively lower performance compared to the compressor refrigeration unit. In recent years, there are many researchers have studied to improve the absorption chiller unit. For example, instead of single stage absorption chiller being installed, there also have installation for multiple stages of absorption chiller. The purpose of this study is to increase the performance by adding additive in the ammonia/water solution that being used in the absorption refrigeration system. The works were initiated by obtaining and analyzing the process flow diagram (PFD) of the absorption chiller unit. Before process data measurements have been taken, an additive of Zeolite NaA must be prepared. The additive contains of certain chemical such as sodium hydroxide, sodium aluminate and sodium metacilicate. Naturally, the prepared additive is white in color and it is soluble in water. With this characteristic, it is easy to dissolve in the ammonia solution. The additive is added with different concentration in the range of 0.0002 M to 0.001 M. After collecting all the data, data analysis is started. In the experiment, the optimum concentration of additive is determined by referring to the lowest cooling box temperature which will give the lowest value of COP. The optimum concentration of additive that can be added to the absorption process is 0.0006M of Zeolite NaA. The optimum coefficient is 1.5. This coefficient is higher compare to the coefficient of performance for absortion chiller without additive that is 1.2. In future, further improvement of the absorption chiller unit can be done in order to improve its performance such as implementing heat integration design.-Author | |
