520 _aAcrylamide (AAm) was grafted onto oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) fiber using hydrogen peroxide as an initiator and methyl methacrylate as comonomer. Graft copolymerization is well-established technique for the modification of the physical and chemical characteristic polymers. In order to determine the optimum condition of grafting copolymerization a few parameters were varied. The percentage of grafting was found to be dependent on the reaction of period, temperature and amount of monomer were investigated. The optimum conditions for reaction period, reaction temperature and reaction monomer were 2 hours, 50°C and 2 gram respectively. The grafting was analyzed by using FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) to identify the presence of functional group in the grafted polymer and the surface morphology was observed by SEM (Scanning electron microscopy). The presence of a peak around 1680.63 cm-1in FTIR of the product strong evidence of presence of acrylamide in the product. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) reveals that the surface of the original OPEFB fiber which is rough and contained grooves and covered by acrylamide after grafting copolymerization.
