520 3 _aThermodynamics properties are important for many purposes in chemical engineering. Most of the information from the literature is for edible oil from temperate countries. This study has been conducted since thermodynamic properties of local cooking oils are not yet reported. Fatty acids of the local vegetable oils are relatively saturated. The main purpose of this experiment is to determine the Enthalpy, Entropy and Gibbs free energy in biodiesel synthesis as to help provide information future studies and projects related to the local palm oil. There are four major steps involved in this research which is biodiesel synthesis using different reaction temperature (40, 50, 60, 70, 80)0C, heat combustion determination using bomb calorimeter, GC analysis and interpretation and calculations data. Next for every reaction, the time is recorded for every minute to obtain the specific rate constant, k value from the CA vs. t graph plotted. Gibbs free energy value is determined after obtained the equilibrium constant, Kc. Then, rate law, -rA is obtained. Lastly ln -rA vs. 1/T is plotted and obtained the enthalpy and entropy of local palm oil biodiesel. From the result we can conclude that the thermodynamic properties such as heat of combustion, Gibbs free energy, Enthalpy and Entropy have been achieved. The value for Gibbs free energy, ΔG, J/mol.K obtained shows negative value which means that the reaction is spontaneous. The value of Enthalpy; ΔH is 116119 J/mol and Entropy, ΔS value is 717.9218 J/mol.K. From the graph we can observed that ln K increases as 1/T decreases (T increases) conclude that the reaction is endothermic. The results information provided could be used for next related studies and an objective of this study is achieved.
