| 520 | 3 | _aBiological control is the use of living organisms to maintain pest populations belowdamaging levels. It is an environmentally sound and effective in reducing or mitigating pests. By concern over the excessive use of chemical pesticides that gives harms to the human and environment, this study is focused in producing a bio-pest from natural resources in order to eliminate insect. It is important to take a measures to turn the use of alternatives methods that are environmentally friendly compared to the chemical pesticides. For this study, Derris Elliptica are being extract to produce rotenone as active ingredient and are mixed together with Imidacloprid and Cypermethrin in order to produce a bio-pest solution for eliminate insect. The aim of this study is to enhance the extraction of Derris Elliptica, Imidacloprid and Cypermethrin for bio pest control. Besides that, this study also to optimize and analyze the best method to eliminate pest by using natural resources. Derris Elliptica contains rotenone that known to be safe to farmers and it becomes toxic to cold-blooded animals and are less toxic to warmblooded animals. Rotenone is classified by the World Health Organization as a moderately hazardous Class II pesticide. Some reports shows that an exposure to rotenone may cause toxicity to mammals. However, toxic in the rotenone will disappear after 2 to 3 days when exposed to heat and it is very good if used as a poison to the insects. Rotenone is usually used in small quantities and it is rapidly broken down in soil and water. Therefore, rotenone good for the environment and safe for agriculturists and other users. The parameters tested in this research are rotenone, imidacloprid, cypermethrin, number of insects and amount of solution used. Analysis of data was performed by using tabulation of data. The optimum concentration of the mixtures to eliminate insects is 0.005% for all three sources and classified as Class IV. The method used to test the efficiency of the mixtures is spraying method. By sprayed the mixtures, the insect can be killed in 1-3 days only. Thus, this study demonstrated that Derris Elliptica, Imidacloprid and Cypermethrin has big potential to become a mixture for a bio-pest solution in eliminate insect. | |
