After thorough lipid screening, microalga Amphiprora sp. was identified as the most suitable microalga with abdundant of lipid content. Hence, microalga Amphiprora sp. was used as a main feedstock for further biodiesel production. Lipid content optimization is an important step in the microalgal biodiesel production. Factors influencing the intracellular lipid body content of microalgae were investigated. The effect of different light intensities and the presence of silica nanomaterials in culture medium on total lipid content were examined gravimetrically. The result for silica nanomaterial consisting culture medium induce a high lipid content by displaying 52.94±0.42% of lipid content while conventional F2 medium only can produce 16.32±0.15% of lipid content. The results disclose that at the range of 24 μmol m-²s-¹ light intensity microalga Amphiprora sp. produces higher lipid compared to other light intensities. The methyl ester content produced for light intensity of 24 μmol m-²s-¹ was 33.52±1.25%. The methyl ester content for the most efficient amount of methanol to oil volume ratio (1.5:1) is 74.44±0.17% of methyl ester content. For an optimum catalyst amount of 2%, it is able to produce 75.25±0.22% of methyl ester content. The most efficient temperature (65oC) produces 81.47±1.59% of methyl ester content. KOH was used as a homogenous catalyst in the transesterification of triglycerides with methanol to produce methyl esters (biodiesel). The optimal reaction conditions were found to be 2 wt. % catalyst amounts (based on oil weight) and 1.5:1 methanol to oil volume ratio at 65 oC reaction temperature. Under these reaction conditions, over 81.47% of methyl esters content were achieved in 3 hours of reaction period at the reflux temperature of methanol. GC-FID chromatograph depicts fatty acid metyl ester such as propionic acid (C3:0) 3.86 %, decanoic acid (C10:0) 34.13 %, hexadecanoic acid (C16:0) 15.67 %, Internal standard: heptadecanoic acid (C17:0) 26.53 %, oleic acid (C18:1) 14.37 %, and followed by pentacosanoic acid (C25:0) 5.44 %. | |
