This thesis seeks to develop an understanding of Building Information Modelling in the construction management industry specifically in estimating through the use of Autodesk Quantity Takeoff. The goal is to provide students with a guide into how to accurately and efficiently perform a quantity takeoff and turning that takeoff into an estimate. An overview to what estimators do and the types of projects they work on was analysed. A comparison between how estimators manually perform quantity takeoffs and using Building Information Modelling to perform quantity takeoffs was performed. A sample from Revit Architecture and Structure was used as the model for the quantity takeoff. An overview of using the building information modelling model to perform a full quantity takeoff was first performed. A subsequent quantity takeoff was then performed using manual takeoff techniques. As we know that accurate materials takeoff is the vital key for cost estimation so that proper cost estimation coordination can be conducted. Using manual materials takeoff, estimator also must imagine and visualize based on 2D drawing for the construction sequence so that material takeoff can be conducted. By using BIM approaches, all the possible error due to human error and miscalculation problem can be minimized. BIM tools also came with capabilities for extracting building component and generated materials takeoff schedule. In this study, researcher, conducting cost estimation based on Revit Organization from the virtual 3D architecture model. |
