Loss of information and miscommunication in the construction industry are often being related to project completion delays and low quality final products. Therefore, with the advancement of Information Technology, these problems can be reduced by implementing Building information modelling (BIM) approach in the construction industry. Autodesk Revit structure has the BIM feature implemented in the software, which allows information within an interface to be shared by construction players. In addition, by using 3D building model we can clearly visualise the entire project because project visualisation using traditional method normally can lead to misunderstanding problem and conflict between construction players. Aim of this research is to determine whether using BIM model can improve project visualization and collaboration between parties throughout the construction phase in Malaysia. To achieve the aim, 3D model focusing on mechanical and electrical d iscipline was created by using Revit software. From the study, the conflict occur during the construction process can be minimized by using BIM technology. In addition, the time required for completion of the project using BIM is verified and have been compared to conventional method. Lastly, the drafting process using BIM is compared to the conventional method and the result was verified. The accuracy of the model combined with animations and fly- through allow contractors to access the design layout before the build takes place and make alterations. |
