Dissertation note: Project Paper (Bachelor of Engineering in Manufacturing Engineering (Hons.)) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang – 2016 Abstract: Inventory is one of the seven wastes of lean manufacturing. Rice is considering as perishable product, it just can keep in warehouse for 4-6 months in proper condition. This research was conducted at KBB Kuala Rompin. The high processing of the paddy into rice cause the high volume of packaged rice store at rice warehouse. The slow moving of the rice shipping out of the rice warehouse cause the high inventory level of rice in the rice warehouse. The existing condition of the rice inventory performance has been analyzed. The improvement for the rice inventory level at rice warehouse will be propose to KBB Kuala Rompin by using simulation software. The company profile, company history and production data through interview with plant manager, time study and manual book have been collected for analysis purpose. Promodel software is used to simulate the current performance of the rice inventory and do the improvement. The methods that used to analyze the causes of the high rice inventory level were Ishikawa diagram, 5Whys and 5W1H. The problem of excessive rice in rice warehouse can be solved by increase the lorry arrival time from 1 lorry per 1.5days to 2 lorries per day. Hence if there have demand of the 80MT rice in a day; the percentage of the rice inventory is decrease from 15.26% to 0.01% which nearly reached 0% inventory level. The fast moving of the rice from the rice warehouse to customer can provide win-win situation between buyer and KBB Kuala Rompin. Since the rice inventory level decrease to zero inventory, they can utilize the huge space of rice warehouse to do the other usage. After knowing the causes that leads to high inventory level, then the solution for improvements will be proposed to KBB Kuala Rompin.
